We are excited to announce that the Mint Julep Jazz Band has been invited to appear on WUNC’s The State of Things, hosted by Frank Stasio, on November 22, 2013 to help promote Housing for New Hope‘s inaugural Rent Party on November 23, 2013 at The Cookery in Durham (see post below). We are excited to announce that the Mint Julep Jazz Band is performing at Housing for New Hope‘s inaugural Rent Party on November 23, 2013 at The Cookery in Durham – this is a fundraiser for an organization that actually helps people pay their rent to help prevent homelessness, among other services to help people in need of housing and prevent homelessness in Durham. There will be dancing, food, an open bar, and the chance to help people in our community, all with a rent party/jazz age theme. Come help us raise the rent for the fine people of Durham!

We are excited to be the headlining (and only) band at this year’s Eastern Balboa Championships, October 31 through November 2, 2013! This event, in its last year, has been the flagship event in the Southeast for Balboa and we are proud to be a part of its traditions of ninjas, fairies, nerf hunting, and sumo wrestling…and dancing Balboa to excellent swing music. See you Saturday night for some serious shuffling!

We can’t tell you how excited we are to be performing at Glen Echo Park‘s illustrious and gorgeous Art Deco era ballroom, the Spanish Ballroom where many of the great bands of the swing era have performed! This past weekend the hosts of Yehoodi‘s talk show Swing Nation hosted a live stream of the International Lindy Hop Championships, held in Washington, D.C. – the Mint Julep Jazz Band tune “Miami Boulevard” (penned by our very own Keenan McKenzie) was featured as the theme song for the broadcast! You can view archives of the broadcast on Justin.tv and check it out, as well as all of the world class Lindy Hop dancers in the competitions.
The sound quality is a little iffy, but here we are performing at All Balboa Weekend in Cleveland, Ohio! We had a great time being a part of the weekend back in June, which definitely has us looking forward to returning to Cleveland in February for SparX at Case Western Reserve University. The Mint Julep Jazz Band’s first big road trip is coming up this Friday, June 14, 2013 as we head to Cleveland, Ohio to perform at All Balboa Weekend! This is the longest-running, if not the largest, Balboa event in the world, and plays host to a number of competitions, dances, DJs, international instructors, live music, vendors, and other special events throughout the weekend. Needless to say, we are honored to be a part of their band lineup, along with Pittsburgh’s Boilermaker Jazz Band, who is playing the Saturday night dance.
The Mint Julep Jazz Band is performing at the Friday night dance, from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.!
